How to delete an RDS Instance

Login to the AWS Management Console and navigate to ‘Relational Database Service’ dashboard. Identify the RDS instance that you would like to delete. Select the instance and expand the ‘Actions’ menu. Choose ‘Delete’ in the Actions menu.

If you would like to create a final snapshot for future restore, provide a name for the final snapshot of the DB instance and confirm that you would like to delete it by typing ‘delete me’ in the box provided and choose ‘Delete’.

If you do not want to create a final snapshot, unselect the option for final snapshot and acknowledge the deletion of all backups. Type ‘delete me’ in the box provided and choose ‘Delete’ to delete the instance.

You will see the status of DB Instance changes to ‘Deleting’ and if it the only instance within the cluster, the status of database cluster will also change to ‘Deleting’.

Once deletion is completed, you will no longer see the resources.
